A significant objective of the Beer-Sheba Project is related to the promotion of education and literacy. Progress is being made in regards to the formation of a Technical Institute whereby simple, appropriate agricultural techniques are taught together with management classes using mother tongue (Serer). Part of the school fees will be paid by students working on the reforestation and agricultural projects in Beer-Sheba. At the end of the curriculum, achieving students will be aided by a micro-loan, enabling them to start their own project, or they could be hired as qualified agriculture technicians throughout Senegal. Teaching staff will originate from both Western and non-Western Agronomy Schools that are willing to collaborate for the Project. We envision a two-year curriculum open to all who are interested.
There will also be a Project Management Department aimed at Christian workers and Pastors to help them develop and sustain profit-oriented agriculture projects alongside their rural ministries. The curriculum will include computer skills, financial accounting, ethics, management and advanced agriculture techniques. The management course will be specially aimed at leading farmers looking forward to create micro-enterprises in their communities. The course will help farmers develop and sustain responsible, profit-oriented agriculture projects. In addition, the Institute will investigate collaboration possibilities with the Ministry of Education in Senegal so as to offer training sessions for primary school pupils from surrounding villages.
The agricultural project and the Institute will operate with Christian leadership.
